Staying fit while travelling can be daunting, but fear not—I have some tips to keep you feeling fabulous.
Travelling can often disrupt our daily routines, making it challenging to stay fit and healthy while on the go. However, with some strategic planning and a positive mindset, it is entirely possible to prioritise fitness and well-being during your travels.
I LOVE a holiday but I also love being fit and healthy, so through trial and error I have narrowed down some simple, practical tips to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle while navigating travel demands.
From incorporating physical activity into sightseeing adventures to making mindful choices about food and hydration, these strategies will keep you feeling fabulous and energized on the fly.
Physical Activity
Be Realistic
Trying to do a full marathon when you can barely sprint to catch your Uber? Let's be real. Set achievable fitness goals, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or attempting a hotel-room yoga session.
Incorporate Exercise into Your Sightseeing
When exploring a new city, why not kill two birds with one stone (metaphorically speaking, of course). Instead of hopping on a tour bus or taxi, walk or bike around. You'll get to soak up the sights and sounds and get in some cardio. Plus, you might stumble upon hidden gems you would have missed if you were zooming in a vehicle.
Find Fun Ways to Stay Active
Exercise doesn't have to be a snoozefest. Explore the city by foot, dance like nobody's watching at a local Zumba class, or challenge your travel buddy to a jump rope duel in the hotel room.
Pack Smart for Fitness on the Go
When it comes to packing for your travels, don't forget to throw in some fitness essentials. Resistance bands, a jump rope, or even a compact yoga mat can easily fit into your luggage and help you squeeze in a workout wherever you are. It's like having a mini gym in your suitcase, ready to keep you feeling fabulous on the fly.
The Time is Yours
Holidays are for you to enjoy, so take what makes you feel good in your day-to-day life with you. Schedule some time for activities you love; if that includes exercising, make it work for you. You don't need to find a gym or spend hours away from your family. Just 15 minutes can make a significant difference, so fit it in around your fun and responsibilities. Don't feel guilty for continuing to do what makes you feel great! It's also essential to keep up with your rehab exercises.
Utilise Hotel Gyms and Fitness Centers
If your hotel has a gym or fitness centre, consider it your personal playground. Get those endorphins pumping on the treadmill, or channel your inner bodybuilder with some hotel-room push-ups.
Plan Ahead for Healthy Eating
Research Local Healthy Food Options
Google can be your best friend here. Find out where the locals get their green smoothie fix or load up on fresh fruit at the nearest market. Bonus points if you can pronounce the menu items correctly.
Carry Nutritious Snacks
Avoid the temptation of a hangry fast-food binge by stocking up on portable goodies you like. Your stomach will thank you later.
Power to Say No
I love poolside sangria, but that doesn't mean I'm giving up on my wellness journey or indulging in foods, drinks, or activities that make me feel bad! Whether I’m with friends or family, I stay true to the happy, healthy version of myself and confidently say no when needed.
Stay Hydrated and Rested
Water is your secret weapon against travel fatigue. Keep a refillable bottle handy, and sip on that H2O like you're a hydration guru. Most hotels will provide water in some form free of charge- so no execuses,
And don't forget to catch those Zs—beauty sleep is real, folks.
With these tips in your back pocket, you'll be strutting through airport security like a fitness-savvy superstar. Travel on, wellness warrior!
