Making the Most of the Last Weeks of Holidays — A Devon-Based Guide to Finishing Strong
As the end of the holidays starts creeping in, it's easy to feel that mix of "where did the time go?" and "I should probably get my life together." Whether you've been flat out with family commitments or enjoying long coastal walks, now's the perfect time to squeeze the most out of these last few weeks — Devon-style.
Here's how to reset, recharge, and go back to the routine feeling like you've actually had a break (not just a blur of barbecues and beach towels).

1. Devon Life — It's Not All Rosy (And That's Okay)
Let's be honest — living in Devon during the holidays is a mixed bag. Yes, we're lucky to have a stunning coastline, rolling hills, and plenty of cream teas. But the traffic? The packed beaches? The rain just when you've booked time off? It's real.
If you've been trying to juggle work, family life, and the summer madness while sneaking in the occasional paddleboard session or pub visit, give yourself some credit. And if you haven't "made the most of it" yet? There's still time. Autumn is my favourite time to get to the beach, the water is at its warmest in October, sun still golden and the beach quiet, alive with surf.

2. Create a Mini Bucket List (Realistic Version)
No pressure here — just write down a few things that would bring you joy before summer wraps up. For example:
* A sunset swim at Mothecombe
* A guilt-free lie-in
* Coffee and a Dartmoor walk with a mate you haven't seen for a while
* Finishing a book, or starting one and not finishing it — that counts too
Don't worry about Instagram-worthy moments. Focus on what feels good FOR YOU!

3. Sports Therapist Hat On – Don't Wait Until You're in Pain
As a sports therapist, I see it all summer — people pushing their bodies hard during time off, then limping back into work or training in September or worse, putting it off until the New Year; may as well, right? WRONG!
Now's the time to check in with yourself. Have a few niggles been creeping in? Don't ignore them. A quick sports massage, some mobility work, or even just proper rest can save you weeks of recovery down the line.
If you've been putting off booking in with someone — I get it, but don't leave it until you *have* to.

4. Plan Something for After the Holidays
Once September hits, it's easy to get swept up in the back-to-school/back-to-work frenzy. But here's a trick: plan something now for after the holidays. Give yourself something to look forward to that's just for you — not your kids, not your boss, not your to-do list.

5. Ease Back into a Routine (With Kindness)
Reality of work,nd the looming count down to December is coming. Whether you’re starting a new routine or just going back to the usual timtable, ease back. Maybe Childs starting secondary school, new job for you, back to uni… whatever September means- Be Your Own Best Friend.
These means be as kind and supportive as you would be to your best mate. You don't need a strict morning routine or colour-coded calendar. Just start making small changes — a little earlier to bed, maybe prepping meals again, or setting one goal for the day. Get your body and mind gently used to the shift ahead, rather than going from flip-flops to full-throttle in a day.
---
6. Reflect (Without Guilt)
Whether your break was a whirlwind of chaos or a chill one, take 10 minutes to check in:
* What felt good?
* What do you wish you'd done differently?
* What's one thing you want to carry forward into "real life"?
There's no wrong answer. Just don't let the holidays blur into nothing.
Even if August didn't go how you imagined, the last weeks still count. One wild swim, one proper night's sleep, one act of self-care — that might be the memory that defines your summer.
So go on — finish strong, Devon-style.
